In Tanzania, as in many African countries, children with disabilities are considered cursed and are often hidden away for life to avoid family shame. Access to public education may be denied due to a visible abnormality, with or without disability.
Day Spring Academy at YWAM-Mwandege welcomes local children with and without disabilities into fully accessible classrooms with national curriculum. A special needs classroom at Home of Hope provides an option for children needing more assistance and an individualized program.
DaySpring Academy accepts children with and without disabilities at all education levels, Preschool through Secondary levels. School buildings are wheelchair accessible throughout and Wezesha Kupaa provides tuition support for children with disabilities.
DaySpring Academy Secondary School opened in January of 2024 with a small group of first year students. After scoring Top in District on national exams at the end of their first year the class size doubled to begin Year 2, with an even larger group starting Year 1 in 2025.
