Access to appropriate medical care is a constant challenge for people with disabilities in rural Tanzania. Specialists are of limited availability and are found mainly in the referral hospitals of major cities. Most Tanzanians depend on public transportation, so travel is time consuming and expensive. Health insurance is rare and limited, and fees for specialized health care services are expensive.
The Diagnostic Center at Uzima Clinic provides a wider range of services locally accessible to people with disabilities in surrounding villages. It supports the relationship between Wezesha Kupaa and the regional health care centers in Dar es Salaam by covering urgent health care needs of those staying at Home of Hope.
The Maternal Child Health program at Uzima Clinic supports healthy mothers and children by providing comprehensive perinatal care including local access to laboratory studies, ultrasound, and maternal counseling. Uzima Clinic is part of the national provider network for childhood immunizations and HIV interventions.
The Wezesha Kupaa outreach team finds children and young adults in remote, unserved areas to provide specialized medical evaluation and life-changing care for conditions such as untreated epilepsy.
The Diagnostic Center at Uzima Clinic offers a range of essential diagnostic services to the local region.
Our mobile outreach team visits isolated, remote villages in Tanzania's coastal region, providing access to specialized medical care for people with disabilities such as untreated epilepsy. Valuable relationships with village elders help overcome the fear and stigma associated with disabilities, improving support within their communities.
